stepUP transitions' Services - Writing & Editing

Charlene de Haan’s journey into freelance writing crept into her life so gradually she didn’t see it coming. Her passion for writing began in elementary school, corresponding with relatives and friends living overseas. In grade seven, her short fiction story, I’ll Never Try that Again! was read to the class as a model. Her first piece of non-fiction was published in THE PROVINCE (Vancouver newspaper) during her university years. For approximately five years, Charlene authored an inspirational column for leaders working with children. While writing workshop curriculum for instructors across Canada, Charlene also served as Canadian Curriculum Consultant, editing both adult and children’s resources. Several articles were published in PERSPECTIVES magazine for club leaders, and her international photos plus a few articles focusing on world issues published in SERVE, a global organization’s national newsletter. Since 2007, Charlene has been writing freelance articles that profile human interest stories. She became a member of The Word Guild in January 2009.

Charlene’s business writing experience includes:

  • Crafting conference brochures
  • Writing press releases
  • Editing employee and procedure manuals
  • Designing paper and electronic surveys
  • Redesigning application papers and reference questionnaires
  • Transposing traditional forms to electronic fillable forms
  • Developing staff evaluation (appraisal) forms

Charlene de Haan has been authoring our ongoing series of congregational profiles "A Church You Should Know" since 2008 and also contributing occasional “Kingdom Matters” articles to Faith Today, the magazine of The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada. She clearly has a heart for God's mission to draw the world to Himself, and her writing shows it. She uses an extensive network of contacts, does careful research and delivers material on time. I gladly recommend her to others who may be able to utilize her writing skills.
